On October 17th, in Hefei, the China News Service reported that the engineering research and development project for a new generation of intelligent, environmentally friendly compressed air foam fire-extinguishing technology has recently passed inspection for major scientific achievements in Anhui Province. This cutting-edge technology is capable of extinguishing fires efficiently in various complex scenarios, with a particularly significant impact on fires involving lithium batteries.

The innovative fire-extinguishing technology stems from the National Key Laboratory of Fire Science and has been developed independently by Zhongke Yong’an (Anhui) Technology Co., Ltd., which was incubated by the University of Science and Technology of China’s Advanced Technology Research Institute. Centered on environmental protection and driven by intelligence, this technology enhances fire-extinguishing efficiency while reducing resource consumption through optimized foam generation and injection systems. Additionally, it offers eco-friendly features and minimizes pollution.

The head of the research team shared that they have developed a composite, highly stable micro foam fire-extinguishing agent specifically designed for lithium batteries. This agent, created using a combination of inorganic and organic components, boasts high stability, a micro-foam structure, and environmentally friendly properties. It effectively cools down fires, absorbs smoke and dust, and captures hazardous gases.

This fire-extinguishing agent is a first in the country and has already seen practical application in various scenarios. For instance, a portable compressed air foam fire-fighting device features a human-like design for easy carrying, long spray distances, and wide coverage, making it ideal for use in complex terrains. Fixed installations can automatically sense fire alarms and promptly activate fire suppression systems to effectively prevent the spread of fires.

Currently, this new generation of environmentally friendly intelligent fire-extinguishing technology is widely utilized in lithium battery manufacturing and storage areas, electric bicycle shelters, new energy vehicle charging stations, chemical parks, commercial districts, and residential areas. It effectively addresses fires triggered by battery thermal runaway, rapidly extinguishing open flames while reducing harmful emissions and protecting the environment. The team plans to further optimize the technology, increase research and development investment, and accelerate its industrialization process in the future.
