An on-site observation meeting for the 2024 Quality Rice Demonstration Plot was recently held at the Yangxiangping Family Farm in Anjiang Village, Gaoyang Township, Jianyang City, Nanping, Fujian Province. Over 50 participants attended the event, including agricultural experts from the county’s Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau, agricultural technicians from various villages, major grain producers, and technology commissioners.

The meeting featured 16 different rice varieties, with breeding experts on hand to showcase high-quality rice to local agricultural technicians and large-scale grain farmers. Attendees exchanged insights and shared results from their planting experiences. Among the highlights was the “Nuo Liangyou 6191” variety, which demonstrated an impressive yield of 560 kilograms per acre, as confirmed by expert evaluations.

Huang Ronghua, a researcher at the College of Agriculture at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, elaborated on the variety’s qualities, stating, “The ‘Nuo Liangyou 6191’ is a premium, high-yield sticky rice developed by our institute. It’s characterized by high productivity, exceptional quality, and excellent stickiness, making it ideal for dumpling preparation.”

Following the observation event, the county’s Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau quickly organized a training session focused on high-yield rice cultivation for large-scale grain producers. Senior agronomist Zhang Qisong provided a comprehensive overview of rice cultivation techniques, addressing everything from seed selection and planting to irrigation, fertilization, and integrated pest management. His presentation was thorough yet accessible, ensuring that all participants could grasp the concepts easily. Additionally, Ye Longrong, director of the county’s Seed Management Station, tackled fertilizer and pesticide application concerns raised in surveys completed by the grain producers, offering practical advice for improvements.

“Currently, we are addressing issues related to rice fertilization. Our goal is to enhance the use of base and top-dressing fertilizers through targeted training,” Ye Longrong noted.

In recent years, Shunchang County has actively implemented the “High-Quality Rice Variety Trial Demonstration” project, which introduces superior and high-yield rice varieties suitable for cultivation in Gaoyang Township. This initiative not only promotes food security but also supports beneficial policies that encourage farmers to engage in rice farming. As the rural revitalization strategy progresses, Gaoyang Township continues to enjoy abundant rice harvests, providing tangible benefits for farmers and revitalizing the comprehensive development of the countryside.
